    FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR

Peter Francis

Peter Francis is an accomplished and well-loved music educator throughout South East Queensland.

A graduate of Queensland Conservatorium of Music and the University of Southern Queensland, Peter holds a Diploma of Music and Graduate Diploma of Further Education and Training respectively.

Throughout his more than 30-year career as a music educator, Peter has found his niche as a multi-instrumental teacher and wind band conductor, having studied conducting with the likes of Jerry Nowak, Tim Lautsenhauser and James Curnow among many others.

Peter has been in-demand as a guest conductor, educator and adjudicator throughout Queensland, including involvement with Townsville's Mulkadee Cross Arts Festival, Education Queensland's "MOST" program for outstanding student instrumentalists and most recently, has served as a multi-instrumental wind and brass pedagogy teacher for Sound Thinking Australia's Annual Summer School.

Peter was awarded life membership of Queensland's premiere youth music organisation Queensland Youth Orchestra in 2016, having been the founding conductor of the QYO Big Band and conducting the organisation's top wind band, QYO Wind Symphony, for a number of years. In his years with QYO, Peter saw his career expand to South East Asia, taking bands to festivals in Singapore and South Korea, forging connections and friendships that have seen Singapore as a frequent travel destination where he works with community and school ensembles as a band clinician.

Peter's involvement with community music has spanned as long as his career, having been founding conductor of Redland Sinfonia, of which he was also awarded life membership, and currently serving as conductor and Musical Director of Redland City Bands. Since founding Adult Starters Music in 2020, Peter has grown the organisation to include two ensembles based on the Redland Coast with hopes to expand throughout South East Queensland in the near future.
